Description
Unlike his Italian compatriots, Blankerkhof depicted the southern Mediterranean view in the seascape not with bright colors, but with the means of tonal painting, in the tradition of the Dutch seascape of the 1630s and 40s. With minimal use of color and light and shade contrasts, Jan Blankerkhof's seascape is replete with details, rendered with tonal nuances.

until 1950 - in the collection of Captain Sir Bruce Ingram, London - a famous collector of ancient paintings and drawings on a maritime theme.
