Description The composition of the painting goes back to the painting of the same name by the Italian artist Francesco Zuccarelli (1702-1788), stored in Venice in the Accademia Gallery (between 1740-1750, oil on canvas, 142 x 208 cm, inventory WG26018). It was created by the master before leaving for London and is associated with the Venetian period of the master’s work. The growing popularity of Zuccarelli generated interest in his paintings and made them exemplary for other artists. The plot of “The Rape of Europa” was one of the most popular among painters of the 18th century.
